Toughness Evaluation: 33-Point Coaching Assessment Tool

The Toughness Evaluation is a 1-page, 33-point assessment coaches can use to measure the behaviors that truly impact winning: effort, communication, body language, defense, accountability, and team-first habits. Designed for quick in-game or post-practice evaluation, this tool gives athletes clear standards, repeatable feedback, and a concrete path to becoming “hard to play against and easy to play with.” This downloadable checklist breaks toughness into three simple, coach-verified categories: 1. Fundamentals & Effort (1–11) Track high-effort actions that separate competitors—screening, cutting, talking, getting on the floor, running the floor, fighting through screens, and winning 50​/​50 plays. 2. Mindset & Work Habits (12–22) Measure habits that build identity: playing so hard you need subbed out, taking responsibility, finishing plays, taking charges, handling coaching, showing strong body language, and throwing yourself into defense. 3. Leadership, Focus & Accountability (23–33) Evaluate behaviors that elevate a team: being alert, boxing out, valuing our shot over my shot, concentrating, owning mistakes, next-play mentality, and making every game important.
